One platitude that prevails in obesity and slimming circles is that one can "reset" your tendency to weight gain. Another is that "emotional eating" is a purely physical effect. Its like we are being led to believe that somewhere there is a sunny upland, where we can eat all we like and not get fat.
This is a platitude and a lie. The tendency to gain weight is set for life. It's probably because of pre-birth programming to be all the time in "famine" mode. Fat people stay fat because they are pre-programmed for scarcity. In today's Western diet, rich in grains and sugars , people with that kind of "famine" prebirth programming can't change the tendency. That means a permanent diet change to avoid grains and sugars, and maybe a lifetime of just one meal per day. Cliff Richard has this tendency to gain weight. He decided at the start of his career 40 years ago to eat one meal a day and has done so ever since. He remains slim.
Quite simply for a food addict, this kind of change is unthinkable. That is the problem.
