Stay awake! Food addicts are not all obese!

Click here to see one way not to deny the problem: JoLynn Braley takes food addiction seriously! She had been watching a TV show about an obesity clinic........

I think it’s important that you don’t minimize your own issues with food, food addiction, and/or overweight (you don’t have to be overweight to be addicted to food) just because you aren’t morbidly obese, and if watching the Brookhaven Obesity Clinic puts you in a “what the heck, I’m not so bad!” mode (which leads to overeating!), maybe you shouldn’t watch the show.
;)

Well done, JoLynn. We all know that denial of the problem is a classic sign of addiction. As long as we all stay awake and aware of the truth - that many of us are self harming by abusing food - we will be on our way t0 healing.

Hi Althea,

Thanks for recommending my post to your readers. Food addiction is something that I am quite familiar with although I'm not addicted to all food....specifically I am addicted to refined sugar, white flour, added salt, unhealthy fats, and even dairy. I like to add this because it's not true that if you're a food addict that you can't do anything about it because you have to eat.....you don't Have to eat those unhealthy ingredients that cause the addiction! :)

You're completely spot on that you don't have to be obese to be a food addict, either. I have approx 35 pounds to lose, and at the same time I can relate to those same issues that morbidly obese folks talk about: using food to make you feel better. I do know the peace that comes with staying off the addictive substances because I've done it before. My challenge is to stay out of denial and to stay clean by eating whole, healthy foods on the clean and healthy track. ;)
